In the modern world, it is no longer necessary to use the animal as food or to use animal products for, for example, clothing and medicines.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Many people believe that the usage of animal-based products would be no longer needed in the modern world. Personally, I partially disagree with this opinion because it is simply impossible, particularly in food terms. Nevertheless, the development of advanced technology can help people to reduce the involvement of animals to produce goods.

Leaving out the use of animals from human life is unrealistic, especially in respect of food. Over recent years, there has been a heated debate on whether it is better to practise vegetarian or meat-eating diets. Consequently, this has become a matter of public concern, showing that there are many people who strongly advocate eating meat. Therefore, the idea of stop using animals as food and following vegetarianism or veganism instead will be challenged by fierce objections, making it impossible to completely eliminate the use of animals as food for human. Although scientists have been successful in producing artificial meat grown in laboratories, to have this kind of meat accepted by the public worldwide is in the very distant future.

However, the involvement of animals in other sectors can be limited significantly thanks to the inventions of new artificial materials. First, the fashion industry would not need the animal's skin any longer to make leather clothes or accessories because there are many synthetic materials available today with their quality as high as the real leather. Second, some modern materials even have better quality compared to animal-based materials, contributing to the reduction of using animals in making products. For example, in the past, violin strings were mostly made from sheep's intestines, but they are very expensive and hard to keep them in good conditions. In this case, high-tech nylon strings are a perfect alternative which requires lesser upkeep and has higher usability.

In conclusion, even though many people believe in the future in which there is no animal-based usage, it seems to me that this idea is relatively impractical, especially in the food sector. Nonetheless, advanced technologies in the modern world will enable people to reduce the involvement of animals in making products and items.
