The bar charts give information about how many people in cities and rural areas were affected by four sources of noise pollution during daytime and nighttime in 2007.
Overall, it is clear that daytime was when more people suffering from noise pollution compared with nighttime, and urban areas were where more residents got affected by all four types of noise pollution. Traffic was by far the main source causing in pollution in both cities and rural areas.
Daytime noise from traffic affected far more people living in urban areas compared with rural regions, at 64 million and 34 million respectively. At night, 48 million city dwellers experienced this noise type, double the figure for rural regions. Noise caused by trains in affected a slightly more people in cities in comparison with rural areas, at 10 million and 8 million during the day respectively, and 8 million and 6 million at night respectively.
Aircraft and industry were the minor source of noise pollution. There were only 4 million urban residents experiencing noise pollution from aircraft over daytime, double the figure for those living in rural areas. There was no noise from industrial activities in rural regions, whereas 1 million city dwellers underwent this noise type during the day, four times the number of nighttime.
