Throw-away lifestyle nowadays is present in many modern consumer societies, especially in developed nations. This behaviour is strongly influenced by the remarkably high goods consumption and the way commodities produced. As a result, environmental pollution will undoubtedly be the most major undesirable matter arising.

It is clear that the main culprits for this social trend are the increase in consumerism and the types of products generated. With regards to the former, the average annual income of people at the present time is higher than it used to be decades ago leading to human's desires in improving the qualities of life. This encourages the purchase for the latest or most attractive items as a replacement for the old or broken ones. Additionally, the rise of single-use and short-lived items is also a contributing factor. The food industry would be a typical example of this as the use of disposable tableware and packaging is ubiquitous. Besides, numerous competing manufacturers create low-quality products that are not meant to last as this business strategy would reduce costs and cause consumers to buy replacement items, which helps to increase sales.

The throw-away lifestyle would damage the environment profoundly. Overconsumption and excessive production of short-lived or disposable items increase alarmingly the amount of trash. Canned and packaged foods and goods are more widely available now than they used to be, so disposable packaging is everywhere. Moreover, human’s highly industrialized and scientific world has also created new kinds of garbage which are difficult to dispose safely of, namely nuclear or chemical wastes. This has been weighing the burdens on waste management and recycling systems to protect human’s life from contamination and hazardous materials.

In conclusion, the emergence of throw-away society has drawn the attention of the public recently. This behaviour can be attributed to high earnings and better accessibility of buying products. As a result, global environmental pollution has gotten worse due to an enormous quantity of garbage disposed of.
