Sample answer
The chart gives information about fast food consumption in terms of how much three types of fast food were consumed by a typical person in a particular European country over a 20-year period from 1970 to 1990.
Overall, consumption of pizza and hamburgers tended to increase over the period while traditional fish and chips were consumed less. By the end of the period, burgers were by far the most popular of the three types of food shown.
At the start of the period, there was a marked contrast in the weekly consumption of the three categories of fast food. People consumed mostly fish and chips with 300 grammes per week (gpw) while burger and pizza consumption stood at around 80 gpw and 30 gpw respectively. Thereafter, the amount of fish and chips eaten by a typical person fell steadily until around 1985, after which it recovered slightly to 230 gpw.
In contrast, pizza and hamburgers experienced steady growth throughout the 20-year period. More precisely, consumption of pizza had reached 230 gpw by 1990, while burgers ended up by far the most widely consumed fast food, with over 500 gpw being consumed by an average person in this country.
