It is a fact that socio-economic developments of the modern world have caused remarkable modifications to the family, including the emergence of nuclear families and the changing role of the mother. In my viewpoint, this tendency is positive because of a number of benefits.

There are two significant changes related to the family system and the different role of the females in their family. First, the conventional structure with three or more generations living under the same roof now belongs in the past. The extended family was forced to split up into smaller groups to move around and live in different places to find work. This has led to the reduction in family size and the rise of nuclear families. Another fundamental change is related to working mothers. A few decades ago, there were many male-centered families with men being the primary breadwinner and the decision maker. However, at the present time, women also involve in the world of employment to support their family and become financially independent. As a result, females have been in a stronger position in their family since they can contribute their opinions or even become a decision maker for domestic matters, unlike in the past when women had to obey men unconditionally.

I believe these changes are positive thanks to a number of certain benefits. In terms of financial stability, by having both the father and mother as breadwinners, nuclear families would have dual incomes, thereby creating greater cash flows to supply basic household needs for food, clothes, accommodation and healthcare. Also, financial stability will allow parents to provide better education opportunities for their children, for instance music or athletic lessons. This would make children flourish socially and improve their self-confidence. Regarding bringing up children, a 2-parent household is more likely to reach better consistency in raising their children. By reaching agreements on discipline and modelling appropriate behaviours, children get consistent messages from their parents about behavioural expectations. This is something difficult to do in extended family system with many non-immediate family members, such as grandparents, aunts or uncles, since inconsistency in child raising will inevitably arise.

In conclusion, at present, there are two changes which have occurred to the family system and the role of the mother, including a rise of immediate families as a replacement for the extended families and the mothers going to work. It seems to me that these modifications introduce certain positive aspects as mentioned above.
