Some people think that it is more beneficial to take part in sports which are played in teams, like football, while other people think that taking part in individual sports, like tennis or swimming, is better.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Opinions differ on whether it is better to participate in team sports or individual sports. In my viewpoint, both types of sports have their own positives depending on players’ personal interests and physical or mental states.

Sports played in teams are attractive because of several reasons. First, cooperation and teamwork appear as the main characters of any team sports, so they suit best for people who are somewhat outgoing, extrovert and sociable. These people find themselves most enjoyable while interacting and cooperating with others to achieve the collective goal. Second, the competitive levels of team sports are always higher compared to individual sports, thereby evoking enthusiastically excitement and team spirit. This explains why football is the king sport which draws the whole world’s attention whenever it comes to World Cup football matches.

On the other hand, individual sports provide certain benefits for players, regarding health and mental developments. It is the higher levels of self-reliance, discipline and passion in athletes that are promoted. Since there is no teammate to rely on or to share the pressure, consequently the whole outcome of the game is entirely dependent on that single player. In addition, these sports aid in developing self-esteem while improving concentration as well as physical health. Sports in this category such as tennis, swimming and martial arts are highly recommended for children who suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder and other socialisation disorders. 

In conclusion, it seems to me that both team sports and individual sports show their own distinct advantages. It depends on personal preferences and physical or mental conditions that each person chooses which one is his or her favourite.
