The line graph provides information and predictions about the proportion of urban population in four Asian nations over the seven-decade period starting from 1970.
Overall, the proportion of urban residents increased in each country between 1970 and 2040 . Besides, a similar pattern can be seen in the line graphs of Malaysia and Indonesia.
Looking at the figures for Malaysia and Indonesia, we can see that in 1970, the percentage of Indonesians living in the city was around 15%, half that of Malaysians at 30%. Over the following two decades, the figures for both countries grew gradually to 25% and 45% respectively. From 1990 onward, both line graphs showed a steep slope, which means there was a considerable rise in the proportion of Malaysian and Indonesian urban population. This upward trend is expected to continue in the future; In particular, the prediction shows that in 2040, four in every five (80%) Malaysians will reside in urban areas, while only three fifths of Indonesians will do so.
With regard to the other two countries, at the beginning of the period, the Philippines had just over 30% of its citizens dwelling in the city, making it the country with the highest figure in 1970. The percentage of Filipino urban population reached a peak of approximately 50% in 1990, but fell back to more than 49% in 2010 before slowly rising for the remainder of the period. The figure for Thailand started at around 19%, then remained nearly unchanged at around 30% between 1990 and 2020. By 2040, it is thought that nearly half of Thai people will live in rural communities.

Outline

It is often argued that the ultimate goal of scientific communities should be to invent technologies and devices in order to raise people’s quality of life. I totally agree with this idea, and my essay below would present reasons and examples why I support it.
There are several reasons why scientists should focus the most on how to make our lives better. Firstly, since the dawn of humanity, science has been basically the work of humans, so it is certainly humans who should derive the most benefits from scientific inventions. It has never been easy for scientists to come up with useful inventions. It may take years, or even decades, for a physicist to reach a productive outcome. That means scientists have to apply themselves, spend days inside the laboratory conducting experiments which might put their lives at risk; for this reason, the quality of life of scientists themselves and human beings should be the main objective.
In my view, another explanation of why raising people’s living standards should be given the first priority is that human beings would suffer without the convenience and modernity that science has brought to us. By ways of illustration, the main purpose of medical science is to find effective treatments to diseases and ailments; however, if medical scientists focused on how to treat animals or plants instead of humans, millions of people would have to face life-threatening situations at times of epidemics, and even scientists themselves and their families might die because of this.
In conclusion, for the reasons and examples mentioned above, I believe that the ultimate aim of any scientific projects should be to make our lives better and more convenient.

The bar chart provides information about the quantity of American households belonging to five income groups in three separate years.
It is clear that the American households earning more than 100,000 dollars had been the biggest income group throughout the period shown. Also, the figure for all income groups witnessed a rising trend overall.
In 2007, the numbers of US households whose annual income was less than 25,000 dollars and more than 100,000 dollars were around 25 million and 30 million respectively. The following eight years experienced a significant jump in the figures for both groups, with the former reaching 28 million and the latter peaking at 33 million in 2015. There were 27 million households in the USA who earned from 25,000 to under 50,000 dollars in the beginning year, but the figure had increased slightly to 28 million by 2015.
The figure for other income groups remained nearly unchanged throughout the period; in particular, just over 20 million households made 50,000 to 74,9999 dollars each year, and just under 15 million ones made 75,000 to 99,9999 dollars. Those were also the two smallest income groups.

After entering higher education, while some students focus all their time and effort on studying their majors in order to get a qualification, other undergraduates want to challenge themselves by taking other courses. Despite several benefits of the former view, I still agree with the latter.
On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why graduates should dedicate themselves to their main subjects, but the most compelling one might be that most main subjects in tertiary education require learners to spend a great deal of time and effort on them if students themselves want to have good marks. For example, as a university student, I majored in Physics and Nanotechnology, and it was never easy for me to pass all the exams with high scores. Not only did I have to go to lecture halls every day to take new lessons, but I also needed to go to the library for reference materials, and do a huge amount of research and group projects; this meant I had to devote myself entirely to my studies. Otherwise, I would be unlikely to get a degree of excellence, which would make my CVs more impressive after graduation.
On the other hand, I firmly hold the view that students in tertiary education should split their time between their majors and other useful modules. The explanation is that the job market these days is highly competitive, and academic qualifications would not guarantee graduates a good job. In fact, most headhunters and recruiters expect that their applications can show their soft skills or professional skills in addition to their degrees. From my own experience, when I was applying my CVs to some companies and taking job interviews, a job hunter with a good degree but showing his computing skills or proficiency in written and spoken English stands a better chance of getting the job, while another applicant with an excellent degree without vocational skills might be unsuccessful. For this reason, despite difficulties, students should try to manage their time better, and get enrolled in courses on soft skills.
In conclusion, although it is important to focus on main subjects, students should spare some time for other courses which will be useful for their future job-hunting.
