A couple of years ago, I watch the show “Master Chef US” and I was amazed at and really admired the uniqueness of Western culinary world and cooking skill of the cooks and I wish I would cook well as them.

Honestly speaking, Western culinary style required much different cooking skills and the way to treat specific kinds of ingredients. Today I would like to talk to you about a skill that took me a really long time to learn, which is cooking Western dishes.

" Hi everyone, today I’m going to talk about a skill that takes a long time to learn, which is the playing instrument skill. Specifically here, I have the bass guitar. I originally started playing instrument by playing the actual guitar here as you can see.

Xin chào tất cả các bạn, hôm nay mình sẽ nói về một kỹ năng mà mất nhiều thời gian để học, và đó chính là khả năng chơi nhạc cụ. Và cụ thể ở đây, mình có đàn ghi-ta bass. Đầu tiên mình chơi nhạc cụ với chiếc ghi-ta ở đây như các bạn có thể thấy.

And then I slowly moved on to bass which I really love. But it’s not a very easy instrument to play. As you can see the string is really thick, so for a girl’s hand which is this little, it was really painful starting it, and then it took me a really long to slowly getting used to it.

Sau đó mình chuyển dần sang bass mà mình rất thích. Nhưng nó không phải là một nhạc cụ dễ chơi. Và như các bạn thấy dây đàn rất dày, vì thế so với tay của con gái rất nhỏ, mình cảm thấy rất đau khi mới học, và mình phải mất rất nhiều thời gian để làm quen với nó.

After that, as you can see the reach-out of a bass is also much wider than the reach-out of the guitar. It’s also something else to practice, and it took me quite a while to be honest. But then the sound of the bass is actually really sexy and it’s very attracting and I slowly got to really love it.

Sau đó, bạn có thể thấy khoảng vươn tay của đàn bass thì rộng hơn rất nhiều so với khoảng vươn tay của ghi-ta thường. Và nó cũng là thứ cần luyện tập, và mình cũng mất rất nhiều thời gian với điều đó. Nhưng rồi âm thanh của đàn bass thì rất quyến rũ, và hấp dẫn và mình dần yêu thích nó.

There’s a few things to practice on a bass for a starter within a scale. My favorite scale is pentatonic scale, in Vietnamese, we call it “ngu cung”.

Có một số thứ phải tập khi chơi bass đối với người mới bắt đầu về cung nhạc. Và cung yêu thích của mình là cung “pentatonic”, tiếng Việt gọi là “ngũ cung”.

And then also practicing your fingers is obviously the most difficult. And playing bass you use two fingers to go like this instead of a pick like in the guitar.

Và để luyện được ngón tay của mình là thứ khó nhất. Và khi chơi đàn bass, bạn sẽ sử dụng hai ngón tay để đánh như thế này, thay vì miếng gảy đàn ghi-ta.

There’s a lot to do with a bass. I usually spend around two hours everyday even though I don’t like to say that my schedule is really tight, and I hate saying that I’m a busy person but I’m a little bit of a workaholic, and I spend two hours practicing my bass even though what I play is definitely not perfect yet but to being able to hear the bass sound everyday is really soothing to me and that’s why I love the most about it.

Có rất nhiều thứ phải tập với đàn bass. Mình thường dành ra hai tiếng mỗi ngày mặc dù mình không thích khi phải nói lịch mình khá dày, và mình cũng ghét phải nói rằng mình là người bận rộn nhưng mình là một người yêu công việc, và mình dành ra hai tiếng tập bass, mặc dù những gì mình chơi cũng chưa hoàn hảo lắm nhưng có thể nghe tiếng bass mỗi ngày khiến mình cảm thấy rất dễ chịu và đó cũng là lý do mình thích nó nhất.

Even though I have been practicing bass for quite a few years now, I’m not confident to say that I’m good at it yet. So I just keep practicing everyday, and I could hear that myself slowly gets better throughout.

Mặc dù mình đã tập bass cũng được vài năm rồi, nhưng mình chưa tự tin để nói rằng mình đã thành thạo nó. Nên mình vẫn tiếp tục tập mỗi ngày, và mình cũng có thể thấy được bản thân mình cũng khá hơn từng ngày.

So my recommendation to anyone who likes to learn any skill, from instrument skills to English skills, IELTS skills, any kinds of skills ever, the key point is to keep practicing, and also a very important point is that try to make it interesting so that you will never get bored. That’s pretty much everything you could do to get better, there’s no shortcut for it.

Vậy lời khuyên của mình cho những bạn mà muốn học một kỹ năng gì mới, từ học chơi nhạc cụ, học tiếng Anh, học IELTS, hay học bất kỳ gì, điểm mấu chốt là phải luyện tập, và một điều quan trọng nữa đó là hãy biến mọi thứ thú vị để bạn không cảm thấy nhàm nhán. Và đó là mọi thứ mà bạn có thể làm để cải thiện, và không có đường tắt cho việc đó.
