Speaking Part 1 - Hometown

1.1. Where is your hometown? 

My hometown is nestled in the tranquil countryside in the northern part of Vietnam. Surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque landscapes, its idyllic setting and the close-knit community make it an ideal place to experience the warmth of traditional Vietnamese culture.

1.2. What do you like the most about your hometown?

I would say that what I appreciate the most about my hometown is the genuine hospitality of the people. They warmly welcome visitors with open arms and often invite them to experience local cuisines. Besides that, I really love the peaceful atmosphere there since it brings me an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

1.3. Where did you play in your hometown when you were a child?

When I was a child, I often played in the vast paddy fields near my hometown, where we would spend hours flying kites and enjoying the gentle breeze. Additionally, the winding roads of our village were a popular spot for playing traditional games such as hide and seek and "O an quan" with my friends.

1.4. Would you prefer to live somewhere else and why?

Given a chance, I would prefer to live in Hanoi due to its excellent educational opportunities and modern facilities that cater to diverse interests and needs. With its renowned universities and access to state-of-the-art technology, Hanoi offers an enriching environment for academic growth and personal development. 

2.1. Please describe your hometown a little?

My hometown is both traditional and modern. On the one hand, tradition is preserved by a number of festivals celebrated by local people, and the locals and authorities preserve the historical sites for tourism and education. On the other hand, a whole lot of high-rise buildings as residential places or shopping malls are built, which turns our little hometown into a worth-living place.

2.2. Is that a big city or a small place? 

My hometown is regarded as being small. The country's central area is home to the picturesque and historic scenes of Hue city. Hue provides a more tranquil and laid-back ambiance than busy metropolises. Hue, while being smaller in size, has a thriving local community and a strong sense of heritage.

2.3. How long have you been living there? 

I have been living in my city for the past 23 years. It has been a significant period of time, and I have had the opportunity to establish a sense of belonging and familiarity with the area. During my time here, I have witnessed changes in the community and have become acquainted with the local culture, traditions, and way of life.

2.4. What do you like about your hometown?

I like the hospitality and the love of people there which I hardly find them in my current place. Everyone is living close together and willing to give others a hand when they need help.

2.5. Is there anything you dislike about it?

Personally, it’s a bit boring for me because as a small town, there is not much shopping mall or any other means of entertainment. The streets are not very crowded as well. However, I believe that it has been improving day by day and becoming a potential hotspot due to the increasing number of annual visitors.

2.6. Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?

To be honest, I hope I could come back there one day to visit my relatives and friends, but to settle down my life there is not my plan. I am getting familiar with city life and there are more job opportunities for my future career.

2.7. Do you think you will continue living there for a long time? 

That's an interesting question. I haven't made my choice yet. However, I don't believe I would rule out living in a rural area. Perhaps I could relocate to the country and take advantage of the tranquilly there when I'm ready to settle down. It's quite difficult to predict where life will lead me. I might want to remain a city dweller.

2.8. Are there any changes you would like to make in your hometown?

I would like to ameliorate the infrastructure conditions there so that I can avoid being stuck in the traffic jam during the rush hours.

2.9. Would you like to live in the countryside in the future?

In the future, I would certainly want to live in the country if at all feasible since I find that people there are more laid-back, sociable, and family-oriented, and that living there is less stressful. When I'm retired, I can picture myself living in the country with a slower and peaceful pace of life.

I'm going to talk about Hai Phong city, my beloved hometown, which is situated on the northern coast of Vietnam, along the tranquil shores of the Gulf of Tonkin.

What makes Hai Phong special is its unique blend of bustling urban life and serene coastal charm. The city boasts a rich cultural heritage, reflected in its vibrant festivals and historic landmarks such as the Du Hang Pagoda and the Hang Kenh Communal House. The city is also well-known for its excellent food tour and night market.

Tourists visiting Hai Phong should not miss the opportunity to explore the famed Do Son Beach, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and pristine waters, which can offer a perfect retreat for relaxation and seaside activities. Additionally, a visit to the Cat Ba Island, known for its breathtaking limestone karsts and diverse marine life, is a must for nature enthusiasts.

Hai Phong's blend of urban conveniences and natural beauty makes it an ideal place to live in. With its expanding infrastructure, including modern residential areas, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities, the city offers a comfortable lifestyle that caters to the needs of its residents. Moreover, the warm hospitality of the locals and the city's rich culture contribute to the sense of community and belonging, making Hai Phong an ideal place for both residents and visitors alike.

Part 3 Hometown

1. Why do people have a very strong bond with their hometown?

In my view, people often have a deep emotional connection with their hometowns due to the fond memories and significant life experiences they associate with the place. Additionally, the sense of familiarity and belonging that comes from growing up in a specific community fosters a strong bond that remains rooted in one's identity and cultural heritage, creating a sense of attachment that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

2. In what ways can people improve their hometown?

People can contribute to the betterment of their hometowns by actively participating in community initiatives and volunteering for local development projects. For example, residents can devote their time and resources to transform an unused urban space into a vibrant green garden. Additionally, engaging in environmental conservation efforts, such as organizing clean-up drives and promoting eco-friendly practices, can also help create a healthier and more sustainable living environment for all residents.

3. Which influences a person’s personality more, the hometown or the current city? Why?

The influences that shape a person's personality are multifaceted and can be derived from both their hometown and their current city. On the one hand, the hometown often plays a significant role in molding an individual's core values, cultural identity, and early experiences, laying the foundation for their character development. On the other hand, the current city can contribute to a person's adaptability, exposure to diverse perspectives, and the acquisition of new skills. Both locations thus hold distinct yet complementary roles in shaping an individual's overall personality.
