I. TỔNG HỢP ĐỀ THI DESCRIBE A PERSON TRONG IELTS SPEAKING
1. Describe a famous person you would like to meet.
You should say:
Who is he/she
Why do you want to meet him/her
Why he is famous
and explain what would you do if you meet him/her.
2. Describe a person who has been an important influence in your life.
You should say:
who this person is and how long you have known him or her
why you chose this person
how this person has influenced your life
and explain how you feel about him or her.
3. Describe a person you met who has inspired you
Who this person is
Where and under what circumstances did you meet him/her
What quality about him/her inspired you
And explain the person’s attitude towards you
4. Describe a person you admire.
You should say:
who this person is
how long you have known him/ her
what qualities he/she has
and explain why you admire him/ her so much.
5. Describe someone in your family who you really admire.
You should say:
what relation this person is to you
what are your first memories of this person
how often you see this person
and explain why you really admire this person.
6. Describe a person to whom you are very close in your family / You like. (tương tự đề trên)
You should say:
What relation this person is to you
What this person looks like
What kind of person he/she is
What are your memories of this person
and explain why you like this person
7. Describe a person you know who is beautiful or handsome.
You should say:
Who the person is
When you met the person at the first time
What the person’s character
And explain how you feel about the person.
8. Describe a person who helps to protect the environment
You should say about:
- Who he/she is;
- What he/she has done to protect the environment;
- How he/she helps to contribute to protecting the enviroment.

Khi nói về việc miêu tả người trong IELTS Speaking, đa phần người học sẽ nghĩ đầu tiên đến việc mô tả ngoại hình của người đó. Ví dụ như người này cao ra sao, mái tóc như thế nào hoặc ăn mặc như thế nào, …
Đây không phải là cách tiếp cận sai, nhưng với bài nói kéo dài tối thiểu 2 phút thì sẽ là một vấn đề khi mà người học trở nên “bí từ”, không biết phải mô tả gì tiếp theo.
Để bài nói được trọn vẹn cả về độ dài lẫn ý nghĩa, cách tiếp cận của mình nghĩ nên đi từ giới thiệu đến miêu tả tính cách hoặc nội tâm của nhân vật (theo hướng câu hỏi đặt ra), vì từ đây mình sẽ có thêm rất nhiều ý hay để trình bày.
Ví dụ như: Mình cảm thấy sao về tính cách đó? Mình có ngưỡng mộ người này không? Tính cách đó có gì đặc biệt với những người khác?
Hay vì sao bạn biết người đó, họ có điểm gì khiến bạn ngưỡng mộ, yêu thích, những điểm đặc biệt của họ, vì sao bạn yêu thích người đó, kỷ niệm của bạn với người đó...
Tóm lại, khi miêu tả người, ngoài việc trình bày đôi nét về ngoại hình, người nói có thể tiếp cận những ý về tích cách, công việc của đối tượng để bài nói của mình trở nên ý nghĩa hơn.
Một số tính từ miêu tả tính cách một người khá hay để sử dụng cho những đề này nha:
Như mình vẫn thường nói, một từ vựng được xếp vào band cao là do chúng có một ngữ cảnh nhất định để được dùng. Vậy nên các bạn nhớ đọc định nghĩa tiếng Anh của từ để hiểu được ngữ cảnh dùng từ nhé.
(C1) Adaptable /əˈdæptəbl/: Có khả năng thích nghi tốt
= Able to change or be changed in order to deal successfully with new situations
Ex: Older workers can be as adaptable and quick to learn as anyone else.
(C2) Affable /ˈæfəbl/ Lịch sự, nhã nhặn
= Pleasant, friendly and easy to talk to
Ex: He greeted everyone in the same relaxed and affable manner.
(B1) Ambitious /æmˈbɪʃəs/ Đầy tham vọng, hoài bảo
= Determined to be successful, rich, powerful, etc.
Ex: They were very ambitious for their children ? they wanted them to be successful).
(C2) Amicable /ˈæmɪkəbl/: Một cách thân tình, hữu nghị
= Done or achieved in a polite or friendly way and without arguing
Ex: The government and the union managed to reach an amicable settlement of the dispute.
(B2) Bright /braɪt/ Thông minh, sáng dạ
= Intelligent; quick to learn
Ex: Do you have any bright ideas ? clever ideas)?
(C1) broad-minded /ˌbrɔːd ˈmaɪndɪd/ Có tư tưởng rộng rãi, khoáng đạt
= Willing to listen to other people’s opinions and accept behaviour that is different from your own
Ex: Luckily, our boss is quite broad-minded.
(C1) Conscientious /ˌkɑːnʃiˈenʃəs/ Chu đáo, tận tâm
= Taking care to do things carefully and correctly
Ex: His conscientious manner makes him a fantastic engineer.
(C2) Convivial adjective /kənˈvɪviəl/ Vui vẻ
= Cheerful and friendly in atmosphere or character
Ex: She was a convivial party host.
(C2) Courteous /ˈkɜːrtiəs/ Lịch sự, nhã nhặn
= Polite, especially in a way that shows respect
Ex: The hotel staff are friendly and courteous.
(C1) Decisive /dɪˈsaɪsɪv/ Quyết đoán
= Able to decide something quickly and with confidence
The government must take decisive action on gun control.
(C1) Diplomatic /ˌdɪpləˈmætɪk/ Khôn khéo
= Having or showing skill in dealing with people in difficult situations
Ex: You could try being a little more diplomatic this time.
(C2) Exuberant /ɪɡˈzuːbərənt/ Cởi mở, hồ hởi
= Full of energy, excitement and happiness
Ex: A noisy bunch of exuberant youngsters were gathered outside.
(C2) Gregarious /ɡrɪˈɡeriəs/ (Khó đọc muốn phát khóc) Gần gũi, hòa đồng
= Liking to be with other people
Ex: Hugh was a popular and gregarious man.
(C2) Proactive /ˌprəʊˈæktɪv/ Chủ động giải quyết
= Controlling a situation by making things happen rather than waiting for things to happen and then reacting to them
Ex: Managers must be proactive in identifying and preventing potential problems.
II. CHỮA ĐỀ IELTS Speaking Part 2 Describe a person
Công thức A.R.E.A được hiểu là:
A - Answer: Câu trả lời trực tiếp cho câu hỏi.
R - Reason: Lý do cho câu trả lời.
E - Example: Ví dụ cụ thể cho câu trả lời.
A - Alternatives: Mở rộng thêm đưa ra ý kiến phản bác cho câu hỏi.
Thông thường, chỉ cần đi theo khung A.R.E là bạn đã hoàn thành được bài Speaking hoàn chỉnh và logic, giúp bạn diễn đạt câu trả lời tốt rồi.

1. Describe a famous person you would like to meet
Giả sử ở đây người muốn gặp là Taylor Swift.
Để mở đầu, bạn có thể nói đơn giản hay mở rộng câu hơn. Nhưng ý ban đầu sẽ là giới thiệu về người bạn đang muốn nói tới. Đây là A - Answer.
Đơn giản, bạn nói là: The person I would like to meet is Taylor Swift who is a country music singer
Hay Well, I’m very much interested in and like to meet but to day I’m going to talk about Taylor Swift who is a country music singer.
hoặc để nói dài hơn:
In my to-meet list, there are so many famous person who I’m very much interested in and dream to meet. The person I would like to talk today, she’s a country music singer, Taylor Swift.
Đến phần thân bài, bạn giải thích vì sao bạn yêu mến và mong muốn gặp người đó, những ví dụ bổ sung. Đây là Reason - Example.
I could start off by saying that she is just impeccable. She is not only a popular singer but also a talented song writer.
Well, with a sweet and amazing voice, she is the first female artist has won Grammy Award for Album Of The Year twice, which is extremely prestigious and noble.
In addition to a singer, she is renowned as a musician with an innate ability. She always loves writing songs about her own life. Perhaps, for this reason, her songs are so inspiring and vivid, which always cheer me up whenever I feel down in the dumps.
And I shouldn’t forget to mention that all the time, she looks gorgeous like an angel in dresses, which helps her earn the title “The princess of the country music”.
Something else I need to comment on is that she is very kind-hearted and sympathetic. You know, she founded a charitable organization which raises funds to support poor children in the third world.

You know, properly I can never forget a compliment on her personality in a magazine, which said that: “Swift radiates her kindness wherever she goes”. That’s all I can say about my beloved idol.

2. DESCRIBE AN INTERESTING OLD PERSON YOU KNOW

Hoặc bạn tham khảo bài mẫu theo cách trình bày từ giới thiệu, tính cách đến điều làm bạn ấn tượng với người đó.
When it comes to this particular topic, the first person that springs to mind is my next- door neighbor - Mr Tam, a considerate and thoughtful old man. We have been friends for several years since the day he moved into my neighborhood. Despite the obviously huge age gap, we got on like the house on fire at the very first time we met, and I admire him so much for many valuable virtues of his.
To most people, the idea of senior men often rotates around how old-fashioned and conservative they can be, or how forgetful they are. Mr Tam, to me, is the embodiment of the exact opposite. My deepest impression on him, which is also the reason why we clicked at the very first time we met, is that he is very good with tech gadgets. Unlike many same-age counterparts who are mostly dismissive of anything modern, Mr Tam is not technology-illiterate at all. He often posts adorable pictures of his grandchildren on Facebook, and I believe that he takes great pleasures in replying to every compliment about how radiant and effulgent they look.
I also adore this man for his sentimentality. In his younger years, Mr Tam used to be soldier who fought for the country in the Vietnam War. He is sometimes reminiscent of the days when he was in the army. I remember there was one time when he got a little bit emotional about his friends who laid down their lives in the battle. Whenever we talk, he always reminds me and my friends to keep moving forward in life, so that the sacrifices of his friends will not go to waste.
To me, Mr Tam is both a friend and an inspiration. I admire him for his wisdom, his heart and many of his life advice. He is truly a friend that I never thought I would be so lucky to have.

I would like to tell you about an environmentally friendly person that I know very well and that person is my mother. She is a literature teacher in Secondary School in Bien Hoa and she's 50 years old now. My mom has a simple but very practical way protecting the environment.
She says no to plastic bags so that's why she always brings her own cloth bag whenever she does the grocery shopping. Several years ago my grandmother usually used a big plastic bag when going to the market because she said it was convenient but then my mom told her that it would take hundreds of years for plastic bags to decompose. Moreover the chemicals from plastic bags contaminate water sources or soil, which may leads to adverse effects on our health. As a result, my grandmother doesn't use plastic bags anymore.
Mom has also told me and my family members to cut down on using products down on using products made of plastic such as straws or plastic bottles. She is ready to throw away all plastic products in my house and replace them with those made with glass or ceramics. Although it may be more costly, my mom says that we must do that to protect the environment
To sum up, she has made great attempts to contribute to a cleaner environment and raise my family members' and neighbors' awareness about the importance of "living green". If more people behave like her, I believe that we can mitigate environment issues.

Đầu tiên, bạn giới thiệu về người đó:
Wow, to talk about the person to whom I am closest in my family, I would like to mention my mother, who plays a crucial role in my life. She is not just my mom, she is also my idol, my best friend and also my consultant.
Tiếp đến nêu lý do rồi ví dụ:
I adore her because she is such a kind-hearted, caring and loving person in the family.
(Example) As you know, I live in a nuclear family with four members, my parents, my little brother and me; therefore, my mom will have more time to look after each member more carefully, both in terms of physical health and emotions. Honestly, she is the one I can share everything without any hesitation. Whenever I have any problems or sadness or happiness, mom is always the first person that I talk to. She always cheers me up, gives me pieces of valuable advice and encourage me to look on the bright side everytime I feel depressed.
Moreover, my mom is also a responsible citizen and she fulfills her duty at work very well.
(Example) I guess there must be pressure at her workplace and I know that she has to work really hard to support the whole family but I can hardly hear her complain. Her determination and strong-willed characteristics have set a good example for me and that is also the thing that I have to remind myself so that I can be such a wonderful person like her.
