I. REVIEW

Completing Notes/Summaries không phải là một dạng bài tập quá khó nếu có chiến thuật đúng đắn và luyện tập thường xuyên. Hôm nay hãy cùng IELTS-Fighter ôn lại chiến thuật làm bài cho dạng bài tập này và cùng thử sức với một Mini Passage các bạn nhé.

Ở phần bài tập này, chúng ta có thể được cung cấp một danh sách hoặc phải tự tìm từ để điền vào các Notes/ Summaries. Chiến thuật làm bài phần này sẽ là:

 

- Lưu ý số lượng từ có thể điền vào một vị trí

- Cố gắng dự đoán đáp án

- Dự đoán loại từ cần điền (Noun/ Verb/ Adjective/ Adverb)

- Xác định xem đáp án sẽ đi chung với những từ khóa nào

- Tìm từ đồng nghĩa (synonyms) /paraphrases các từ khóa đấy

 

Bây giờ chúng ta cùng luyện tập bằng một đoạn văn ngắn nhé:

 

II. MINI PASSAGE

Japan, for example, has created vast areas of artificial habitat - rather than isolated reefs - to increase its fish stocks. In fact, the cultural and historical importance of seafood in Japan is reflected by the fact that it is a world leader in reef technology; what's more, those who construct and deploy reefs have sole rights to the harvest.

In Europe, artificial reefs have been mainly employed to protect habitat. Particularly so in the Mediterranean where reefs have been sunk as physical obstacles to stop illegal trawling, which is destroying sea grass beds and the marine life that depends on them. If you want to protect areas of the seabed, you need something that will stop trawlers dead in their tracks,' says Dr Antony Jensen of the Southampton Oceanography Centre.

Italy boasts considerable artificial reef activity. It deployed its first scientifically planned reef using concrete cubes assembled in pyramid forms in 1974 to enhance fisheries and stop trawling. And Spain has built nearly 50 reefs in its waters, mainly to discourage trawling and enhance the productivity of fisheries. Meanwhile, Britain established its first quarried rock artificial reef in 1984 off the Scottish coast, to assess its potential for attracting commercial species.

But while the scientific study of these structures is a little over a quarter of a century old, artificial reefs made out of readily available materials such as bamboo and coconuts have been used by fishermen for centuries. And the benefits have been enormous. By placing reefs close to home, fishermen can save time and fuel. But unless they are carefully managed, these areas can become over- fished. In the Philippines, for example, where artificial reef programmes have been instigated in response to declining fish populations, catches are often allowed to exceed the maximum potential new production of the artificial reef because there is no proper management control.

Using NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS, complete the following sentences. Write your answers in boxes 1-4 on your answer sheet. III. DISCUSSION

Lưu ý đáp án không nhiều hơn ba từ nhé.

 

(1) Cần danh từ chỉ nơi chốn, đi chung với các từ khóa như “entitled”, “all”. Tuy nhiên, đáp án có thể được paraphrases thành những từ mang nghĩa như “hưởng, quyền lợi”, “tất cả, độc nhất”.

-->> Đoạn đầu tiên: “those who construct and deploy reefs have sole rights to the harvest."

-->> Đáp án: Japan

 

(2) Đáp án cần là danh từ vì đứng sau mạo từ “the” và đi chung với các từ khóa như “trawling”, “marine life”, “damage”. Tuy nhiên, các em nên nghĩ về những synonyms của các từ khóa này

-->> Particularly so in the Mediterranean where reefs have been sunk as physical obstacles to stop illegal trawling, which is destroying sea grass beds and the marine life that depends on them.

-->> Đáp án: sea grass beds

 

(3) Cần lưu ý điểm thời gian (In the past), và đáp án phải là hai thứ (both), và đi chung với từ khóa “make”.

-->> Đáp án: bamboo and coconuts

 

(4) Cần danh từ, đi chung với từ khóa “good”, “required”, và “over-fished”.

-->> By placing reefs close to home, fishermen can save time and fuel. But unless they are carefully managed, these areas can become over- fished.

-->> Đáp án: management

 

Completing notes/summaries không phải là một phần khó. Quan trọng nhất đối với dạng bài tập này là khả năng bắt keyword và tìm synonym/paraphrase keyword đó. Do đó khi học từ các bạn chú ý luyện tập paraphrase hoặc tìm synonym của từ đó nữa nhé
