Good morning. I’m here today to give you a few tips about security on campus. We’re not just here to prevent crime, but to make sure you’re safe twenty four hours a day. One of the services we provide for students who live on campus is to walk home with you if you need to cross the campus late at night.

I mean, we all know the halls of residence are quite a long way from the library, don’t we? By the way, another important thing to remember is the campus emergency number. Umm ... we all know the national emergency number in the UK is 9 9 9 . But when you’re on campus ... and there ’s an emergency, you should call 3 3 3 3 . If you call 3 3 3 3
=> số điện thoại của “national emergency” hoàn toàn khác với số của “campus emergency”
you’ll get through to our own staff, right here on campus. They can react quickly and get to you faster than national services.=> "They" chính là "campus emergency numbers", và nó “ faster” (nhanh hơn) là “national services” => đáp án C.
Ngoài ra, để nghe tốt được các bài nghe về chủ đề "Staying safe" , chúng ta cần nắm rõ trường từ vựng về: "crime and protection":
- Security - An ninh
Ex: My bag was emptied and searched when I went through security.
- Deter - Ngăn cản
Ex: Tougher prison sentences may be a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
- Offender - Người phạm tội
Ex: Prison should not be used for first-time offenders.
- Punish - Trừng phạt
Ex: Those responsible for serious crimes must be punished.
- Prevention - Phòng tránh, phòng ngừa
Ex: The government should focus on the prevention of crime rather than introducing harsher prison sentences.
- Commit - Phạm (tội...)
Ex: People who commit serious crimes should be given lengthy (long) prison sentences.
- Criminal - Tội phạm
Ex: Criminals who commit violent crimes should not be given probation.
- Guilt - Có tội
Ex: If jurors (the members of a jury) find a defendant guilty, then that person must be punished.
- Fine - Đóng phạt
Ex: Motorists should be given a fine if they are caught speeding.
- Community Service - Phục vụ cộng đồng
Ex: Community service is a good alternative to prison for minor offences.
- Justice - Công lý
Ex: Those who commit assaults must be imprisoned because the victims want justice.
- Victim - Nạn nhân
Ex: The victims of crime often need help and support to recover from their bad experience.
