Vậy có những trường hợp và phương pháp nào để paraphrase trong IELTS Speaking?
Để paraphrase thì có nhiều cách nhưng các bạn luyện tập nhuần nhuyễn 3 cách sau thôi:
1) Dùng word form khác của chính từ đó
– Cách đơn giản nhất, nhưng bạn sẽ phải đổi cấu trúc câu
- Ví dụ: different (adjective) vs difference (noun)
Do you think men and women are different in shopping habits?
Yes, I do agree that there are some big differences in the way males and females buying things.
Paraphrase: men and women à males and females; shopping habits à the way males and females buying things; different à difference.
- Ví dụ: important (adjective) vs importance (noun)
Do you think that to study a new language is important?
Absolutely, learning a second language is of paramount importance to everyone, especially to young people.
Paraphrase: to study a new language à learning a second language; is important à is of paramount importance.
- Ví dụ: prefer (verb) vs preference (noun)
Which one do you prefer? Living in an apartment or a house?
Oh…Each has its own perks, but I have a preference for staying in a flat over a house.
Paraphrase: Living in an apartment/staying in a flat; prefer/have a preference for sth over sth.

Thử luyện tập paraphrase bằng cách trả lời các câu hỏi sau nhé:
- Who is your favourite celebrity in Vietnam?
- What is the busiest part of the day for you?
- Do you think friendship is important?
- As for you? Which one is more important? Happiness or money?

2) Dùng từ đồng nghĩa với từ đó
– Cách nâng cao hơn tí, nhưng bạn sẽ không cần phải đổi cấu trúc câu nhiều.
- Ví dụ: important (adjective) = indispensable (adjective)
Is food important to you?
Needless to say, food is indispensable to me.
- Ví dụ: like (verb) = to be big on
What kinds of movie do you like?
I’m big on cartoon/ I’m into science fiction films.
- Ví dụ: prefer (verb) = lean towards = have inclination towards
Which one do you prefer? Shopping at a store or shopping online?
Oh…Each has its own perks, but I lean towards / have an inclination towards shopping through e-commerce.

- Do you like any foreign celebrities?
- Do you prefer foreign films or Vietnamese films?
- What kinds of movie do you like best?
3) Diễn giải định nghĩa của từ đó ra hoặc diễn đạt khác luôn nhưng cùng ý
– Cách khó nhất nhưng sẽ ghi điểm nhất. Để dùng cách này, hay nhất vẫn là các bạn học các idiom và các phrases.
- Ví dụ: What comes to my mind ( = I think)
- Well, My favourite leisure activity is surfing Facebook. What comes to my mind when talking about Facebook is the fan page Sai Gon Cua Toi. In English, it means “My Saigon”. This page is my must-visit spot whenever I open the FB app because it has numerous interesting and entertaining posts featuring surprising facts about Saigon that I have never known, even though I have spent my whole life living in this city.
- Ví dụ: It’s not the case to someone/ something ( = it’s different to s.o/s.th)
- Well, I’m not really a collector, you know. For the most part, many people are keen on collecting things and expanding their collections. But it’s not the case to me because collecting seems kinda boring and time-consuming.
- Ví dụ: [Something] can be attributed to [some reasons] ( = because)
- Being able to speak fluently a new language can be attributed to three main factors.
- Ví dụ: play a crucial role ( = important)
- Because immigrants do jobs that many people do not want to do, they play a crucial role in the economy.
